IUCN NCUK Members’ Meeting and AGM CANCELLED, 26th March 2020

Please be informed that, with regret, our IUCN National Committee UK Members’ Meeting (including the Annual General Meeting) due to take place next Thursday 26th March in Cambridge has been cancelled.

We have been closely monitoring the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation this past week to decide what is the right course of action in terms of our duty of care for everyone’s health at such meetings. We have been assessing: i) UK and devolved government advice on holding mass gatherings; ii) UK and devolved government advice on travelling within and from outside the UK; iii) advice on restrictions of holding our meeting at the David Attenborough Building in Cambridge; iv) other relevant considerations.

Based on the latest government advice that people should avoid gatherings and crowded places, should stop non-essential contact with others, should stop all unnecessary travel and should work from home if they can, the situation in our view is clear and we shall follow that advice.

We will continue to monitor the situation over the coming weeks, and hope that there will be an opportunity to reconvene this meeting in the coming months. We will also let you know how we intend to run the Annual General Meeting this year – one of the governance elements within our Constitution and Rules of Operation.

We would like to particularly thank all our speakers and everyone who had signed up to be part of our well-subscribed discussions on the day, as well as our hosts, the IUCN Cambridge office.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused as a result of this measure and thank you for your understanding. Let’s continuing working together as best as we can in the coming weeks.

Our good wishes to you all.

Stephen Grady (Chair) and Chris Mahon (Chief Executive)
IUCN National Committee UK
