New IUCN Member holds major population and environment event

MPTPSN RGB logo

One of the most recent organisations from the UK to join IUCN is the Margaret Pyke Trust, with the Population and Sustainability Network. They will be holding a Population and Conservation event on the 10th July in London, moderated by Andrew Mitchell MP.

‘A win-win for human and environmental health: How conservation programmes can be strengthened by meeting family planning needs’, takes place in the larger context of the global Family Planning Summit. This July marks five years since the landmark London Summit on Family Planning, and the Department for International Development (DFID), the Gates Foundation, and the United Nations Family Planning Association are marking the fifth anniversary of that summit by holding a major follow up event in London
on 11 July 2017.

The Margaret Pyke Trust want to influence that summit, and are holding their own event, on 10 July, where they will promote to the conservation and climate change sectors the importance of partnering with the health sector. They would very much like to share this invitation with IUCN Members.

Event details:

‘A win-win for human and environmental health:
How conservation programmes can be strengthened by meeting family planning needs’

Where and when:

One Great George Street, Westminster, 10 July 2017, 15h00 – 18h00
(including a brief reception after the presentations).

Speakers:

A range of brief presentations will be provided, highlighting how family planning can (or has already) been included in a diverse range of conservation programmes, and why more conservationists need to do so. Speakers will be from Pathfinder International (the international reproductive health NGO behind perhaps the largest integrated family planning /conservation programme, situated around the Lake Victoria basin), the Population Media Centre, Population Reference Bureau and Blue Ventures (the most well-known NGO implementing the integrated approach), as well as the Margaret Pyke Trust. Former DFID Secretary of State (at the time of the 2012 London Summit) the Rt. Hon. Andrew Mitchell MP will be the moderator.

If you are interested in attending, please contact Carina Hirsch, after which formal
invitations will follow.
